So in the spirit of family development, or toddler development at any rate, here's an update.
S learned to walk on May 20th. She walked all the way across a room that day at a friend's house, then took a couple of days off, and by the end of the following weekend was starting to walk pretty consistently. She has rapidly learned to lean over and pick things up, but she still won't stand up from the middle of the floor.
She is now learning words faster than we can keep track of them, but here's what I can think of that she has so far:
Cat - says this quite well most of the time, and I think it was her first real and consistent word.
Ball - "ba" or "ba-ba". She can go find a ball if you send her looking for one.
Duck - "duck" or "guck". She recognizes both her rubber ducky and actual ducks. Penguins, geese, and a few other things are also ducks.
Dog - "og" or "gog" usually. I think she likes them even more than the cat.
Book - "bu" (rarely gets the K sound). Books are possibly her favorite toys.
Fish - "sh" or "ish" - this is for goldfish crackers, not actual fish.
Shoe - also "sh." Like her dad, she takes them off whenever possible. Luckily, it's summer!
She's working on:
Car/truck - "k" for either at this point.
Banana - "na." I've only heard this a couple of times.
Eat - "eat" with the sign. Again, I've only seen/heard a couple of times, but it was appropriate.
George - her monkey. Intermittent, and with variable pronunciation.
Teddy bear - various sounds, but she says something fairly consistently when looking at this.
Oddly, Mama and Dada are still only variably used discriminately. She can say both, but usually doesn't bother to name us.

coolness. Does that mean you guys are no longer worried?
ReplyDeleteBasically. She was a little slow to get started, but seems to be aquiring all the skills that she didn't show much interest in 2 months ago.
